Skill Development is to put forth the knowledge, experience and desired skills. It is to reinvent, inculcate skills and impart knowledge that is required for a particular workforce to employ. It seeks to adapt changing technology and market demands with enhanced capability.

With 356 million, 10 to 24 year olds, India has the world’s largest youth population, making it the youngest country in the world according to a UN report. With an expected population of 1.3 billion by 2020, 60% of which would be in the working age group (15-59 years), India is anticipated to be the manpower powerhouse of the coming decade with human resource at the center stage of the world. In view of various studies, India is expected to have more than 700 million Indians, estimated to be of a working age by 2022 and to up skill 500 million people. It will also require an estimated 70,000 highly skilled trainers now and 20,000 additional trainers each year. This creates a need for sufficient supply of highly skilled Counsellors, Educators and professional Trainers to deliver this.


According to a research byBoston Consulting Group, estimate is that by 2020 India will have a surplus of active population - of about 47million people. This is almost more than all the rest of those countries with net positive population growth combined. A new research from the McKinsey Global Institute (MGI) suggests that by 2020, the world could have 40 million, too few, college-educated workers and that developing economies may face a shortfall of 45 million workers with secondary-school educations and vocational training. In advanced economies, up to 95 million workers could lack the skills needed for employment.

According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), “Skill Development is of key importance in stimulating a sustainable development process and can make a contribution in facilitating the transition from an informal to formal economy. It is also essential to address the opportunities and challenges to meet new demands of changing economies and new technologies in the context of globalization.”
